Interview with Mr. Walsh

Kathleen Mendoza, Staff Writer

Where did you go to school, and what did you study?

I went to the University of Maryland in College Park, and I studied physiology and neurobiology.

Why did you become a teacher?

After college, I went to medical school and I realized I didn’t want to be a doctor. I realized I didn’t want that life so I came back here, I was a TA, and then I got certified to teach. The next year I became a chemistry and biology teacher.

What is one of your best teaching experiences?

I think it’s just being with you guys everyday. Day to day, I love it.

What song do you know all the lyrics to?

Probably most songs by Ben Folds. He’s a piano player, but it’s like pop piano.

What was your favorite childhood show?

Spongebob. I used to watch a lot of cooking shows, too.

What is your dream vacation destination? Why?

Maybe cruise the Mediterranean. I’d like to go to Australia or France just to eat. I’ve been to Italy, the Caribbean, Bermuda, and Vegas.

What is your biggest piece of advice for high school students?

Just be flexible and just keep going. You think you have this plan, and it may not work out, and that’s okay. Just be willing to be flexible and just keep moving forward.

What was your senior quote?

“Sometimes wrong; never in doubt.”
